Oneg Shabbat
Our first and third Friday evening services always end with an opportunity for people to socialize, to talk over the ideas Rabbi Burt has shared in his sermon, and to meet one another. Sponsoring the Oneg Shabbat is a lovely way to share with the community. Any reason is a good reason to sponsor an Oneg! Perhaps you are marking a special event (a birth, baby-naming, engagement, wedding, anniversary, graduation, bar/bat mitzvah) or you want to remember a loved one in a special way, or celebrate a return to health, a new job…or any reason. We welcome you to sign up in advance to provide a simple buffet to be enjoyed by all. Feeding others is a nourishing experience in so many ways!

Helpful Oneg Guidelines
Foods to consider: Easily served finger foods such as: cheese/crackers; hummos/pita; nuts; raw veggies, cookies; wasabi peas; pretzels; chips; spreads/crackers; dried fruits; fresh fruits (cut up)
Other things to bring: 2 challas, 2 large bottles grape juice (Please note: wine is not permitted at Friends Meeting House), 2 tablecloths (to cover two 6-foot tables), napkins, small plastic cups
Optional, depending on what you serve: serving dishes/bowls, paper plates, plastic utensils. Flowers and vase and other table decorations are also optional.
No open flames are allowed at Friends Meeting House, so no candles, sternos, etc, please.
Judging quantities: Remember, the Oneg is just a nosh, not a meal! We tend to average about 65 people at services -- more on Family Fridays or if your own invited guests are numerous. The Oneg coordinators know these details and are available to help you decide how much food to supply. Contact Florence (floro530@aol.com) or Carrie (clsred030659@hotmail.com). Friends Meeting House operates a homeless shelter and they are happy to put left over food from the Oneg to good use, if you choose.
Set up: We have access to the space at Friends from about 5 pm on. (Services begin at 6:30 pm). Two 6-foot tables will be set up in the vestibule for your use. The staff of the Friends Meeting House cannot accept deliveries or store foods ahead of time, sorry. Deliveries made after 5 pm are OK, as long as you or someone you designate can be there to accept them. The Oneg Coordinators can be available to help you with set up and clean up. You can discuss this with them when you arrange for your oneg date.
Dates: We make every effort to accommodate each Oneg sponsor’s first choice of date. If two occasions fall on the same date, the Oneg Coordinators will contact each sponsor to discuss the possibility of sharing.
