We take seriously our contribution to tikkun olam, repairing the world. We believe that it is important to gather as a community to give. The Shul of New York offers many opportunities to be active, contributing members of society by:

doing our part to be responsible humans (organ donation, bikkur cholim, making soup kitchen information available to those in need)
 •
organizing activities that raise money for charity (Mitzvah Movie Nights),
 •
arranging opportunities for Shul members to volunteer their time to offer a hand to local service organizations (in collaboration with Middle Collegiate Church)
looking to the broader, international community to share a message of spiritual Judaism (Project Tikkun)Tell me more

In the past, Shul members have done the annual AIDS walk, helped to build a house with Habitat for Humanity, refurbished schools with NY Cares, contributed to Dress for Success, and more.

INTERFAITH COLLABORATION for GOOD
The Shul of New York is pleased to announce a new collaborative community service initiative. Shul congregants now have the opportunity to volunteer in one of three relevant and rewarding, ongoing Social Action projects run by Middle Collegiate Church. (The Shul and the Church celebrate an annual Interfaith Passover seder together, are avid fans of each other’s wonderful music, and share mutual admiration for Reverend Jacqui and Rabbi Burt.)

Three drop-in opportunities are all based at Middle Church, 50 East 7th Street:

The Clothing Closet

(volunteers needed Weds 12-3pm and Thurs 4:30-6:30 pm) Tell me more

The Food Pantry (volunteers needed Tuesday afternoons) Tell me more

The Momentum Project (volunteers needed Monday evenings) Tell me more

In general, volunteers for each of these projects are over 18 years of age, but high school students doing community service are welcome. Also, volunteers must be able to climb stairs.
