Family Programs
The Shul of New York’s Family Programs provide a venue for children to learn about Jewish values in a fun, inclusive, and diverse environment. These engaging programs offer children and parents alike an opportunity to get a fresh, modern perspective on Jewish life. They emphasize spirituality and tradition to help all kinds of families develop and maintain a strong connection to Judaism. Family Programs explore monthly themes through participatory art, music, movement, literature, and more. We hope you’ll join us!
Upcoming themes we will explore in an age-appropriate way include: Mezuzah (September); Torah (October); Star of David (November); Menorah/Chanukiah (December); Hamsa (January); Miriam’s Cup (February); Kippah, tallit, tefillin (March); Hecksher (April); The Shul of New York Heart (May)
The Shul’s Family Programs include:
Family Fridays/Kids’ Shabbats – a monthly Shabbat celebration that allows kids to experience Shabbat in a meaningful way. Children enjoy supervised activities in an upstairs room at
Friends Meeting House while the adult Shabbat service takes place on the main level. Kids join in the adult service for the Torah procession, music, dancing, Torah reading and Rabbi Burt’s comments. Preceded by a kid-friendly, simple dinner for families, the Kids’ Shabbats take place once a month, most often on the first Friday of each month.
Dinner at 6:00 pm; children’s program at 6:30. (A $5 donation is appreciated.)
