Learning the Liturgy of the Friday Evening Service

Rabbi Eva is offering 3 classes to increase our familiarity with and knowledge of the Friday evening prayers, and to understand the flow of the service.

Each class is separate and does not depend on or require attendance at any other class.

You may attend any 1 class, 2 classes or all 3 classes.

The classes will be offered at 7 - 8:30pm on the following Tuesday evenings.

March 21, 7 - 8:30pm:  Prayer and Rituals.  We will focus on the concept of ‘prayer’ as well as the customs and rituals related to Shabbat.

April 4, 7 - 8:30pm:  Friday Evening Service: Part 1:  Kabbalat Shabbat.
Kabbalat Shabbat
consists of hymns, psalms and lecha dodi. We will explore the meaning of these prayers that are the gateway into the Friday evening service.

May 16, 7 - 8:30pm:  Friday Evening Service: Part 2:  Ma'ariv, the Evening Service.  We will explore the Ma’ariv, the evening service, from the time we stand for the Barechu, the call to community, through the end of the service.

Classes will be held in a downtown location to be announced soon.

The fee for each individual class is $18.
