| Our mission is to offer a transcendent experience of spiritual and intellectual engagement to our growing community, and to respond to the deepest needs and aspirations of our congregation. Our primary goal in this regard is the cultivation of the soul. We aspire to transform the word "soul" from one of concept to one of reality, and to guide people toward awareness and acknowledgment of their spiritual hearts and the joyous fulfillment of their souls. Our purpose is to provide an environment in which people will find peace, healing, and refuge from the hectic pace of their daily lives. Our mission is to strengthen our growing community by providing a source of enduring meaning and purpose as we actually live -- actually feel -- the experience of divinity. Our approach combines the traditional tenets of Judaism -- rituals, beliefs, holidays, customs, prohibitions, admonitions, and philosophies -- with vital, unconstrained, and creative innovation. Through prayer, meditation, music, song, dance, and above all else, love, our intent is to bring to people's consciousness the living, breathing, aliveness of their being, so that each person can make a profound and transformational heart-connection to the divine. As an inclusive and welcoming community we are seeking to live life ethically, affirmatively, and with an ever-present awareness of the holiness of every moment and the sanctity of every event. As a congregation we further seek to fulfill our sacred obligations of repairing the world and performing acts of loving kindness. In addition, we are an essential part of the exciting renewal and revitalization of the Lower East Side, having responded to the pressing need for a reform or alternative spiritual center in this historic section of New York City.
