The Shul Mourns the passing of Marie-Helene Weill

It is with great sadness that we must report the passing of Marie-Hélène Weill on October 27, 2015, one week after her 95thbirthday.

Marie-Hélène and her late husband Guy Weill (1914 – 2006) were founding members of the Shul community and generous supporters of many of the Shul’s initiatives including the acquisition of our Torah and the publication of our Newsletter.

Born in Lausanne, Switzerland, Marie-Hélène came to this country as a teenager and considered herself an “All-American Girl.” She loved making friends and once observed that often, while standing on the corner of 79th and Madison, she would make a new friend before the red stoplight turned green.

Passionate about art, she and Guy formed an important collection of Chinese painting promised to the Metropolitan Museum and exhibited there in 2002. She is survived by her three daughters, Claudia, Kathryn, and Patricia and four grandchildren.

We know that you join us in wishing the Weill family our sincerest condolences.  We will miss her.
