How is this High Holiday different from all others?

We all know the answer to this one.

Dear Friends,

In so many ways we live in an unprecedented time, when few things make sense and the importance of being part of a community like The Shul of New York comes into focus with a renewed clarity.

We have all been forced to make adjustments in our lives and the Shul is no different in this regard. For the first time ever (and we hope the last), the Shul will be holding a Virtual High Holiday Celebration.

Just as we have worked to bring the Shul community to you every day via Zoom, our goal is to bring into your homes everything that makes the High Holidays so very special at our Shul.

While we cannot bring you into the majesty and beauty of the Orensanz Foundation, we can bring the true essence of the High Holidays at The Shul of New York to you.

  • You will hear the moving words of Rabbi Eva and Rabbi Burt.
  • You will feel the music of Adam Feder and The Shul Band.
  • You will laugh (and ooh and ahh) with Don Brancaccio’s Appeal speech.
  • Your children and grandchildren will celebrate and learn in the Kids' Program
  • And, most importantly, you will share the communal experience of Jews around the world at this most meaningful and spiritual time of year.

Obviously, we will not be asking you to order tickets for High Holiday Services. We are asking you to make a High Holiday Donation so the Shul can survive this difficult time.

The Shul has remained, even through the quarantine, minimum dues free. This policy has always been our greatest strength and our greatest financial challenge. It is part of the reason we are projecting the largest deficit in the history of the Shul for the coming fiscal year.

We know that many of you may also be facing financial difficulties at this time.

Please do not feel guilt (no easy task for Jews!) if you cannot support the Shul in the way you have in the past. We know in better times you will be there for the Shul again and we greatly appreciate your support. Every donation, regardless of the amount, helps ensure the Shul's survival.

However, if you are financially able, we need your support now. We need you to donate as you did last year and, if possible, to do just a little more.

How well the Shul weathers this storm is up to you.

Please remember we are asking you to make a donation to the Shul at the High Holidays to ensure the Shul's future survival.

It is important that you donate as you did last year based on the number of people celebrating the High Holidays with the Shul, wherever they are.

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to support the Shul for the High Holidays. A new streamlined and simplified donation form for the High Holidays is below.

You may also give to the High Holiday Appeal (It's one stop shopping!) and support the Shul Band on this form. The Shul has continued to pay our wonderful musicians through the quarantine. Your gift to the Music Fund will help offset this expense.

We have continued our policy of group discounts on the recommended amounts. And for the first time, you will have the option of making your High Holiday donation over time in 6 monthly installments.

You have always been there for the Shul in difficult times.

Now, more than ever, we need your help.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
