Middle Collegiate Church (l.) and the Social Hall (r.) in the aftermath of the fire.

On December 5, 2020 a terrible fire gutted the truly beautiful and historic, 128-year old Middle Collegiate Church sanctuary at 112 Second Ave. Also damaged in the fire was the building to its south housing the Women’s Prison Association and the annex building on 7th Street where the Shul held (and will one day again hold) our Shabbat Services in the church’s Social Hall.

This tragedy is a terrible loss to the many communities that are served by Middle Collegiate, as well as to New York City.

Love. Period.

To help our friends at Middle Collegiate, The Shul of New York has started a fund so we may, as a Shul family and community, show our support.

The Shul of New York has felt a special connection to everyone at Middle Collegiate ever since they became our Friday night home with our first Shabbat Service in the Social Hall on October 2, 2015. The welcome we received from Rev. Jacqui Lewis was warm and gracious, and the Shul family has joined the Middle Collegiate family for many interfaith and Maundy Thursday gatherings. We feel a special connection to the Middle Collegiate community.

We are asking you, to whatever extent you are able, to help our friends at Middle Collegiate in their time of need. All donations are tax deductible and will go to the Middle Collegiate recovery efforts.
